What We Know So Far About the Tragic Death of 6-Year-Old Gracelyn Vick
What We Know About the Heartbreaking Death of 6-Year-Old Gracelyn Vick
A small Mississippi town is mourning the devastating loss of 6-year-old Gracelyn Vick, who vanished Sunday afternoon from her family’s home in Saucier.
According to relatives, Gracelyn had gone outside around noon to play in the yard but never returned. As the hours passed with no sign of her, panic set in — and her family contacted local authorities for help.
Massive Search Effort Launched
The Harrison County Sheriff’s Office quickly initiated a large-scale search that lasted approximately six hours. Law enforcement agencies from nearby areas joined forces with Gulf Coast Search and Rescue, helicopters, drones, and around 40 local volunteers to comb through the land surrounding the Vick family’s property.
Tragically, Gracelyn’s body was discovered that evening, not far from where she was last seen. According to WLOX, her remains were recovered from the property at around 8 p.m.
Investigation Ongoing, No Arrests Made
Deputies sealed off a portion of the property, including areas with livestock and a children’s swing set. Crime scene investigators remained on-site well into the night, gathering evidence and documenting the scene.
On Monday, Sheriff Matt Haley addressed growing speculation online, stating:
“So far, no one has been arrested in the case, and it’s too early to determine if foul play is involved. This is an ongoing investigation.”
An autopsy was scheduled for Monday at the state crime lab in Biloxi to determine the exact cause of Gracelyn’s death, according to The Clarion-Ledger.
A Family Shattered by Loss
Support has been pouring in for the grieving Vick family through social media and the surrounding community. At Saucier Elementary, grief counselors have been brought in to help students and staff process the loss of their young classmate.
For Gracelyn’s mother, Vicky Lynn Hutcherson, the pain is unimaginable. Gracelyn is the third child she has lost in just a few years.
In March 2024, Gracelyn’s 13-year-old stepsister, Victoria Hutcherson, was tragically killed in a crash on U.S. 49. She was remembered as a loving, protective older sister who always looked out for her siblings.
And in July 2021, the family endured another devastating blow when 18-year-old Larry Hart, Gracelyn’s brother, passed away due to a medical condition.
A Community in Mourning
As the investigation into Gracelyn’s death continues, the Saucier community is rallying behind the family in love and grief. The story has struck a painful chord far beyond Mississippi, with countless people sending thoughts, prayers, and condolences.
May little Gracelyn rest in peace — and may those investigating her death find the answers her family so desperately needs.
